On Saturday evening, August 3, the Conotton Valley Rockets football team hosted the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints in the first-ever OHSAA Jamboree Classic to kick off the 2019 football season. The scrimmage featured both teams running 20 offensive plays in two separate ten play dives. During those sets of plays, the Rockets scored the sole offensive touchdown for either team although the secondary had an interception return which was blown dead by the officials due to the coaches being on the field for both teams.
There was a brief intermission while both JV teams ran eight offensive plays each before the varsity resumed play with the first and ten chains now being used. The Saints took the ball down the field and completed a 4th down pass in the red zone to keep their drive alive and then completed a fourth and goal pass for their touchdown. The Rockets then took possession of the football and after picking up a first down, fumbled the ball away to end the scrimmage.
The junior high Rockets also scrimmaged the Saints just prior to the varsity scrimmage.
The beautiful weather made for a sizable crowd for both teams as fans were eager for some football and to get a look at football on the new artificial turf which was just recently installed at the high school this past summer.
